February 2009 Bankruptcy Filings Increase 29%

According to a report issued yesterday by the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI), consumer bankruptcies are on the rise. Consumer bankruptcy cases filed nationwide last month were up 29% from this time last year and 11% from just last month. The ABI based its report on data from the National Bankruptcy Research Center, which compiles statistics on bankruptcy filings.
