Oklahoma’s unemployment rate jumped to 5.6 percent in January, according to information released Wednesday by the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission. January’s rate was up from 4.8 percent in December and 3.8 percent the same time a year ago. The state lost 31,800 jobs during January 2009.
