Community Publishers Announces Employee Furloughs In Oklahoma

by Dan Nunley

The sagging economy is forcing employees at more than two dozen small newspapers across northeast Oklahoma to take a one week furlough.

Arkansas-based Community Publishers announced this week its employees at 23 community newspapers in Oklahoma, as well as Arkansas and Missouri, will take a five-day furlough by the end of July.

The company’s president says advertising declines in auto and real estate have led to a drop in revenue.

Community Publishers prints a number of Oklahoma community newspapers including the Broken Arrow Ledger, the Bixby Bulletin, the Catoosa Times, the Collinsville News, the Coweta American, the Glenpool Post, the Jenks Journal, the Mannford Eagle, the Owasso Reporter, the Sand Springs Leader, the Skiatook Journal, the Tulsa Business Journal, the Tulsa Daily Commerce & Legal News and the Wagoner Tribune.
