About 200 of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma’s Tulsa employees will be out of a job within the next six months, according to a statement released Wednesday by the health insurer.
Employees were notified of the restructuring Tuesday morning. Blue Cross and Blue Shield employs 1,200 in Tulsa and 100 in Oklahoma City.
The affected local employees work in the health insurer’s downtown offices at 1400 S. Boston Ave. and on a floor of the Boulder Towers at 1437 S. Boulder Ave.
Most of the positions will be relocated to a central federal employee claims and customer service center in Abilene, Texas, which is operated by Health Care Service Corporation of which Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma is a division.
Tulsa employees can be considered for the Abilene positions and will be given preferential treatment, but in some cases their salaries may be reduced to be in line with salaries in Abilene according to Nicole Amend, a spokeswoman for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma.
Terminated employees will receive separation pay and access to various transition services, including training on resume writing, interviewing skills and proper networking, as well as other outplacement services as needed, according to the statement.
